Thumb Arthroplasty (Arthritis Surgery Base of Thumb CMC Joint)

Dr. Reza Momeni (www.DrMomeni.com) explains the surgical steps taken in a typical CMC arthroplasty operation for a patient with severe arthritis and pain at the base joint of the thumb. There are several accepted techniques to surgically treat this condition. Dr. Momeni uses a tendon graft from the patient’s own wrist to fill the space and provide cushion support for the patient’s future thumb function and pain relief. Dr. Momeni is a board-certified plastic surgeon with an interest in hand surgery and cosmetic surgery. This video is strictly for educational purposes, and is published with permission from the patient.
