We have a day surgery, wherein the patient is sent home after few hours of the procedure. The pain control in this type of condition is different since it entails swift disappearance of pain. But the best person to tell us the severity of pain is the patient. Post-operative pain is quite disturbing when not handled properly. The patient has the freedom to choose but the doctors have the command. For lower abdominal pain, I would recommend continuous epidural blockade of pain pathways for total freedom to pain. I, for one knows how severe post-hemorrhoidectomy pain is.
