Birth in Egypt is modern, skillful and standardized. Every 23 seconds a baby is born in Egypt, and the Egyptian gynecologists are truly masters of birth. However, modern shouldn’t be a major idea in birth, rather natural steps, common sense and informed consent can lead to optimal birth, even in a clinical environment. This why Cairo Birth House dedicated all it’s efforts to combine both, medical standard and sensitive birth expectations of expectant couples in one hand: by giving birth preparation courses since 2006 and establishing a fixed location in an Egyptian private hospital in 2008. With obtaining the Doula license of the Doula Association GfG Germany in July 2010, another milestone for the founder of Cairo Birth House has come true. This film is a clip of the widely broadcasted Egyptian TV program OTV taken 2006 and broadcasted during the morning show. I and my husband show other expectant couples the effect of effleurage, a soft partner massage during and between labor for natural pain relief and comfort of the woman in birth. First time ever on Egyptian TV birth was described as natural, soft and full of wonder. Although my text was published voiceover in Arabic, everybody watching this film will understand the impact of my explanations and my passionate vote for natural birth and sensitive treatment during birth as women’ s human right.
